History: Wiki page. The mentioned manga is a spin-off to the main canon but some chapters were used in the anime. Sadly, the manga has no official translation yet and fan translations are sparse.
In the volume 1 of the manga, a Lander (formerly NPCs when Elder Tale was a game), named Scott sought out Nyanta's help. The chef wanted to propose to his girlfriend. Being from a noble background however, her father refused. That is unless he could recreate a legendary dish. Despite having a decent level in cooking, each attempt fails and he exhausted every possible solution.
Shiroe and Nyanta reach a conclusion that the recipe must've originated from the beta test phase of Elder Tale. Monster names change over time and it turns out they need a dropped item from an extremely high leveled one: a Roc. Seeing Scott's determination, Nyanta decides to become his teacher. They are able to retrieve the Roc egg and Nyanta teaches Scott in Real Food Preparation, the skill Nyanta himself created that sparked a flavor revolution in the world. Two weeks later, Scott's rendition of the recipe impresses the father and soon enough, Scott gets married to the girl he loves.
Later on, Nyanta has his fellow Log Horizon guild-mates taste test rice balls he was helping a food crafting guild with. One of them comments about if they mixed dried bonito flakes into the rice, it'd be like cat food or "nekomanma". Shiroe brings up that the previous guild Nyanta was in was called Nekomanma. The younger members say they never heard of it so he explains.
Nyanta began playing Elder Tale during its beta days some twenty years ago. He had been going at it solo until he crossed paths with another player, Tamasaburo. Tama was quick to notice Nyanta was a role-player type of gamer and recruited him to his Werecat-exclusive guild, Nekomanma. During this time, he honed his skills and joined on multiple raids. One day, he asked Tama why he created the guild. The master laughed and said he wanted to know fun things. He enjoys the game and wants to explore every possibility out there while having fun. Then one day, Tamasaburo never logged back in and with the guildmaster gone, Nekomanma fell apart in disarray. Eventually Nyanta would log back into the game irregularly until the Catastrophe happened and found himself in the world of Elder Tale.

Ask anyone about their first impression of Nyanta and chances are the reply would be a "cool cat" literally. Nyanta presents himself as a gentleman of the highest degree from his appearance to his manner of speaking. When the Catastrophe occurred, the players took in some of their in-game character's appearances. In Nyanta's case, his race was Werecat and so this became his physical body when the canon begins.
The reason as to why he picked this particular race aren't stated in canon directly. Quite possibly it's because he wanted to separate his Elder Tale alter ego from something that could be found in reality. The person behind Nyanta was originally a roleplayer. In his twenty-something years of playing this MMO RPG, the player behind Nyanta developed this particular persona. It's only hinted that he had suffered some sort of great pain in the previous world but it does result in Nyanta never speaking about his past before the Calamity. Even his age is speculative with most believing he's in his late thirties to forties. He presents himself as a gentleman of the highest degree from his appearance to his manner of speaking. While not all of his equipment may not be legendary in terms of rarity, his choices reflect his taste for things gentlemanly and refined.
Like Shiroe, he has great knowledge of the game and often provides mentoring to the younger members of the Log Horizon guild in times like the summer training camp. Thankfully his methods of teaching are not "sink or swim" nor smothering. He lets the younger Adventurers realize the key basics to running a party and developing synergy to ensure success on their own. Only when the training camp is interrupted by a sudden surge of aggressive monsters does Nyanta come in to help.
However he's much more refined socially than his younger guild leader. Even when he taunts his opponents there's an elegant air to them. One of the things he doesn't tolerate are bullies. During his stay in Susukino, the city fell apart after the Catastrophe happened unlike the stabler Akihabara. Adventurers in this cold city were brutal to anyone who stood in their way from the Landers to other players all because they could. Nyanta rescued Serara, a low-leveled healer, from the player-killing guild who ruled the city. The guildmaster, a high-leveled monk named Demikas, labeled her as his pet and took every chance he could to bully her.
Nyanta gave Serara a roof over her head while she waited for someone from her guild to help her get back to Akihabara. Because of this act of kindness, Serara developed a crush over him and strives to help him out when she can. While under his care, she appreciated the fact he never treated her as a kid and gave her encouragement despite the circumstances they were in. When help does arrive, Nyanta is more than happy to leave the gloomy city of Susukino but not before teaching the leader a lesson.
He completely trusts his friends to have his back even when the enemy starts to fight dirty. In normal circumstances a tank-based Monk would've had an advantage versus a lighting bruiser like a Swashbuckler. This was not case in the Nyanta vs Demikas fight. Demikas's strategy was just to simply spam his special abilities. Nyanta used his job's abilities to out run his opponent while chipping away at him with debuffs and chaining combinations. The synergy between Nyanta and Shiroe is enough to impress the other high-leveled Adventurer on the rescue team. The duo synced Shiroe's binding spells with Nyanta's quick physical attacks to reduce the enemy's health to 1 point before Demikas even realized what was going on.
Even before the Catastrophe sucked players into the world of Elder Tale, Nyanta is a voice of reason to any group be it the legendary Debauchery Tea Party or his current home with Log Horizon. DTP was known to take on the toughest raids and dungeons the game possessed but often had tendency to be. Both Shiroe and Naotsugu acknowledged he was the common sense that steered them on the right path. He calmly accepted the fact that the world of Elder Tale was indeed real rather than wallow in fear and panic. With that mindset thrown out, he was able to master his Overskill, Real Food Preparation. While food in the world would look delicious, they all had the same universal taste of bland rice crackers. The key was instead of using the ingame menu, the food must be prepared from scratch with ingredients obtained by the player.

Nyanta is understanding of his bitterness since none of them ever asked to be brought into a world where they had no control. Nyanta is sadden that he cannot reason with Londark but it turned quickly to anger when the Lander Mizufa kills the mage all while commenting how nice is it for Adventurers to not be able to actually die. While having a reviving system has perks, dying is not something to be trivialized in Nyanta's mind. Mizufa even comments his blades lack the urge to kill when they engage in combat. His goal however wasn't so much to kill her but to just stop her from winning the bigger plan at hand.
Though he has seen his fair share of guilds and groups dissolve, Nyanta views them as a necessity. There is a reason why Nyanta never joined a guild after both Nekomanma and DTP disbanded. He wanted Shiroe, who previously had negative views on guilds, to understand the true power of guilds and form his own. Post-Catastrophe, Shiroe realized his plans to bring order to Akihabara weren't something he could tackle alone and so Log Horizon was born. Despite the loss of Nekomanma and DTP, Nyanta is not bitter about it. He came to terms that it's just how things turn out and he'll have fond memories of both while they gave him the foundation to be the veteran team dad figure he becomes.

Two quick flicks were all Nyanta needed to finish off the random monster that wanted to pick a fight with him. He sheathed his rapiers away with the battle now over and looked around. He was just at the edge of a forest when the sun slowly began to sink to the west. His eyes came across a small shrub a few feet away.
"Ah, here it is, nya. I knew I smelled it earlier." To the delight of his chef side, the basil he found was still young and fresh. It would make a wonderful touch to the stew he planned for dinner. In spite of all the struggles this world had dealt him, the Werecat knew even Heroes of Light needed a break or two. What better way to do that than a home-cooked meal?
He rounded up several other Heroes to forage for anything to help fill out what food was left in supply. Satisfied with his finds, he made his way back to camp to get his makeshift kitchen ready. Soon enough, the heroes began to gather around the source of the mouth-watering aroma passing through the entire facility. With each bowl served, Nyanta gave a reassuring smile especially towards the younger Heroes since he knew they needed it the most.
The last seven months were grueling even for a veteran like himself. True, this world shared many of the fantasy tropes with Elder Tale, but it wasn't a smooth transition. The sense of panic and anxiety was all too familiar to what had happened when the Catastrophe hit Elder Tale. Wallowing in that despair would solve nothing in their current state. Instead, he got to work learning more about this brand new world he was in.
To many of the Heroes, Nyanta became a go to source for advice, training, and the occasional treat. He was never one to turn away a fellow Hero after all, and slowly gained a reputation of being gentlemanly paternal figure among them.
It was a shame Shiroe and the rest of Log Horizon wasn't here with him. He knew, however, there was too much at stake back home for them to be here when they just began to learn more about the other server cities. Nyanta trusted that they would be okay without him. After all, they would've done the same thing if they were in his shoes.

While I am acquainted with several of mew, allow me to introduce myself. I am the werecat Nyanta. I suspect I'd be easy to spot in a crowd given the fact I'm the only of my sort here. Do please ask before doing anything to my ears though.
Before I arrived in this world, I actually went through a similar experience. Back home for me, there's a popular MMO RPG known as "Elder Tale." On the day the newest expansion pack was to be released, players who logged in were transported into the game's world. I know for sure this affected all the Japanese servers but pawsibly the other servers got hit as well. Needless to say, we found out rather quickly the world of Elder Tale was real. This world seems to share many similarities in its themes. I don't suppose there are other Heroes here in Aqures Ixen who know about Elder Tale?
The second reason why I'm writing is I'm currently seeking employment. I'm well versed in swords, so I offer my expurrtise if anyone would like either a trainer or sparring partner. I also know my way around a kitchen and able to cook from different cuisines.
